Recent years have shown that more and more mothers in most countries around the world have chosen to continue breastfeeding their young children from infancy until 3 to 4 years old. This is now becoming a common sight in most societies where toddlers, as much as their own mothers, enjoy the breastfeeding habit. When mothers and their young children, toddlers in particular, are seen still enjoying this habit, one must not try to stop it. (more…)

Breastfeeding can be an isolating experience. A new mum, breastfeeding for the first time, can feel cut off from family and friends if they are unsupportive or simply do not understand her motives.
All too often it is assumed that a breastfeeding mum will scurry off to do the deed behind a locked door and well out of sight. For some parents, building attachment with their babies comes naturally. They instinctively know what to do and how to bond with their babies from birth. For other parents, the process of building an attachment with a baby is a learning experience. Not surprisingly, since for many individuals these days, their baby is very likely one of the first or few babies they have ever had to deal with in their lives – unlike the past when having many children was common, many people had the benefit of experience from helping to look after younger siblings.
