among the most common cesarean risks are a few breastfeeding issues which may affect not only the baby's health but also the relationship between the mother and the newborn. How exactly does C-section interfere with breastfeeding?

Most women want to avoid cesarean deliveries. As compared to the normal vaginal birth, cesarean risks are relatively higher – the recovery period takes longer, the surgery can increase your risks to infection, higher costs, etc. Also among the most common cesarean risks are a few breastfeeding issues which may affect not only the baby’s health but also the relationship between the mother and the newborn. How exactly does C-section interfere with breastfeeding? In this article, we will try to explain to you how a cesarean operation affects breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding is more difficult for women who have undergone cesarean deliveries due to a wide range of reasons like delayed access to baby, increased supplementary feeding, excruciating pain, maternal fatigue, separation from the baby, blood loss leading to anemia, interference medications, etc.

Less initiation – It is said that mothers who have just undergone surgery tend to initiating breastfeeding less as compared to mothers who have delivered normally. Most of the have planned to give breastfeeding a shot but after the operation, they change their minds and opt for commercial milk instead. This may be because the physical toll of the operation saps the mother’s emotional and physical strength. Either they feel groggy from the medication, exhausted from the labor, woozy with the pain or just to weak due to the blood loss. Breastfeeding suddenly becomes a very difficult and overwhelming task to do.

Stress – Stress is also a major factor why women who have had cesarean find it hard to breastfeed right away. A difficult labor or an unexpected cesarean operation can give too much stress to the mother. It is believed that when a mother is troubled, the stress interferes with the release of oxytocin which is the hormone responsible for milk ejection reflex. Studies show that stressed babies may be weaker and less active as compared to the healthy ones.

Delayed access to the baby – Women who have had cesarean cannot be with their baby right away. Nursing your baby after birth can jumpstart hormonal processes which are designed to ensure enough milk supply and to aid in the mother’s physical recovery afterwards. It is said that breastfeeding works best if it occurs on the first hour after giving birth. While a few are lucky enough to nurse their babies right after the operation, most moms patiently wait until they are brought into the recovery room. The delay in first nursing does not only interfere with breastfeeding but also with hormonal levels. It can directly impact the mother’s milk supply, delay the appearance of mature milk – all these can put the baby at risk for excessive weight loss after birth or of dehydration.

Anemia – When you undergo a major surgery, you may lose twice the amount of blood as those who have had vaginal birth. This may cause anemia. Anemia significantly interferes with milk supply.

If you plan on breastfeeding your baby, discuss the matter with your doctor as early as you can. He can make special arrangements so that the baby is brought to you sooner than usual.

The Significance Of Colostrum To Your Newborn’s Health

It is often said that there is nothing like the bond between a mother and a newborn. After carrying your baby for nine months, you become incredibly attached, and, of course, want what’s best for your new child. Anything you can do to help make sure your baby is healthy is worth it, isn’t it? And one of the simplest things you can do to protect your newborn is to breastfeed.

When your baby is first born, he or she doesn’t receive breast milk from you right away. Instead, your baby first gets colostrum, which slowly becomes mixed with milk. Colostrum is not as plentiful as breast milk, and serves a different purpose.

Part of the reason your baby gets colostrum first is to help create good bacteria in his or her GI tract. This helps your baby fight infection and develop a stronger immune system, which is one of the last things to develop before a baby is born. Colostrum is a great first line of defense for your newborn, and one that comes naturally to you. If you continue breastfeeding your baby after the colostrum is gone, you should know there are still great benefits!

Any immunities you have are passed to your baby through your breast milk. This further helps protect your baby from illnesses and infections at a time when he or she is very vulnerable. Breastfeeding is particularly helpful if your baby has a sensitive stomach. Not only is your breast milk specially and naturally formulated to give your baby the exact nutrition he or she needs, but babies who are breastfed have less trouble with gas and digestion. Breastfeeding also helps your baby’s jaw and facial muscles develop, since it’s not as easy to get milk from the breast as it is to suckle a bottle.

The benefits don’t end with baby, though! Mothers who breastfeed recover from labor and delivery more quickly (which includes losing that pesky pregnancy weight), and usually miss fewer days of work since their babies are healthier. Breastfeeding also helps protect you against breast and ovarian cancer, as well as osteoporosis. And the prolactin that’s released in your system during breastfeeding is naturally calming, which can be important during the chaotic time of bringing home a new baby!

Probably one of the biggest benefit
1000
s to both mothers and babies during breastfeeding is the bond that’s created. Breastfeeding is an opportunity for you to be close to your baby, physically and emotionally, and it’s something you share with your baby that no one else in the world can. That helps create a strong, unique relationship between mother and child that can be fostered for the rest of your child’s life.

Breastfeeding is a natural, safe, healthy way to feed your baby. Many of the worries that come with formula feeding, such as cleaning bottles properly, making sure the formula has the right combination of nutrients, and knowing that the formula is fresh and free of toxins, don’t exist when breastfeeding. When you’re willing to do everything in your power to protect your baby, it only makes sense that you would want to take this simple, natural step to keep your baby healthy and use your natural milk to give your baby everything he or she needs.

In order to make the first few days after your baby is born into the most positive, happy and relaxed time where you get to spend the maximum amount of time with your beautiful brand-new tiny baby, these are the things that you should allow yourself to do no matter what.

Breastfeed:
Try to breastfeed your baby. It is what your body is built to do and it also promotes the love hormone oxytocin to help you bond with your baby. There is nothing on earth that will create a bond as strong as breastfeeding your newborn baby.

Skin to skin contact:
Have as much skin to skin contact with your newborn as possible. Have your newborn lying on your chest with just a nappy on and a blanket draped around them to keep them warm. That skin on skin contact will give you a surge of hormones that brings you and your baby ever more closer and strengthens the unique mother-child connection between you.

Love your pyjamas:
If you Want to stay in your pyjamas until it’s time to go bed again at night, then you do just that! All that matters is that you and your baby get to spend as much time with each other as possible in those first few days and weeks, so love your pyjamas! Heck, why not get a few extra pairs!

Bath with your baby:
A lovely, relaxing, positive thing to do is to get into a warm bath. Then lower your baby slowly and, of course, very carefully into the water on his back. Then bring him to your chest for a cuddle. Not only are you both relaxing in this warm cocoon of water, but you are also having skin to skin contact as well. This can only promote confidence happiness and positivity
in your newborn.

Never say no to extra help:
If your mom offers to do the laundry or your neighbour or friend offers to collect the other children from school, just say yes! This gives you more time to relax and settle into the routine of a new baby. It also gives you more time to play with and get to know your beautiful little newborn so accept as much help as possible.

Fill that freezer:
Make sure that in the week or two run up to the birth, you get friends, family and yourself to cook lots of meals which you can freeze. Then once baby has arrived you can just pull out pre cooked delicious meals, shove them in the oven and not have to worry about prepar
1000
ing food in the evenings. Therefore you can enjoy more time with your baby.

Catnap, catnap, catnap:
Try to get as many snatches of extra sleep as possible, so when baby sleeps you can have a sleep too. Grab as many catnaps as you can during the day and this will help compensate for all the broken, sleepless nights that you’re bound to experience.

Ignore the house work:
The house work can wait. The housework doesn’t care. House work is irrelevant when it comes to the birth of a new baby. So don’t panic, you can be sure lots of people will be happy to chip in with a bit of tidying! You just focus on getting some rest and being with your beautiful bouncing baby.
